THIS WEEK: PELVIC PROLAPSE • COMPLIMENTS • THE ROLES WE FILL

THURSDAY • JULY 23 • 2026

Good morning,

A woman and a man can make the same decision, win the same way, and people call him a leader and call her difficult. We don't penalize women for failing. We penalize them for being good at things they're not supposed to be good at.

I've spent my entire life on the wrong side of this math. A woman engineering nuclear submarines in a shipyard full of men. The only woman in the poker room. Building businesses, betting against the house, told in a hundred small ways that a decisive woman is a hard woman to like. Finding confidence was never the problem. Showing confidence was.

That penalty runs through this week's issue: the women who can't take a compliment without handing away the credit, the mother who admits that the most revered title in the world was never one she was built for. We've all felt it—at work, in friendships, in the math of being liked versus being respected.

So this week, I’m asking three things.

One: Tell a woman you believe in her. Give her the compliment, out loud.

Two: The next time someone hands you one, don't shrink. Say thank you like you deserved it. Because you did.

Three, and this matters more than it looks: Click our sponsored links today—whether you're buying or just browsing. We're being counted to see if this audience shows up. Every click is the difference between a partner who comes back and one who doesn't. Brand partners are what allow me to pay the women who do this work.

I'm betting on this. Bet with me.

WELLNESS

No One Warned You About Pelvic Organ Prolapse. There’s a Reason.

BY JULIE STEWART

Frequent bathroom trips. Leakage. Pain during sex. A bulge where there shouldn't be one. Half of women assume these are just part of getting older. It's not, and the fact that so many of us believe it is exactly the problem. You asked for a deeper dive into this one—the science, the current thinking, the treatments no one walks you through. This is it. Pelvic organ prolapse affects one in four women over 40, and here's what the silence has been costing us.

MONEY

Why Being a Female Breadwinner Still Feels Like Losing

BY MELANIE LOCKERT

Make sure you always have your own money. That was the advice. What it didn't account for was earning the money, running the household, raising the kids, managing the invisible labor—and then watching the math of leaving turn out to be just as punishing as the math of staying. On the price we actually pay, and the different question worth asking instead. READ MORE

Why Most Supplements Only Do Part of the Job

You take the probiotic. The magnesium. The greens powder that never dissolves no matter how long you stir. And somewhere around the sixth bottle, you start to wonder why you feel exactly the same.

Why? Because most supplements work in isolation, and some barely work at all. A probiotic with nothing to feed it passes straight through. Magnesium in the wrong form is barely absorbed. Each bottle does its own small thing, and you're left trying to fix six problems with six products that were never designed to work together.

LYMA ID² is built around a different idea: order matters as much as ingredients. Four types of fiber go in first to feed the gut bacteria, so the probiotic strain has something to live on instead of passing through unused. The omega-3 is protected so it survives long enough to matter. And the vitamins and minerals—more than 25 of them—come last, once the gut is ready to absorb what it's being handed.

Michele, 60, told LYMA the bloating she'd lived with for years started easing around three weeks in. Jasmin, 67, said she can now eat almost anything with no repercussions.

It's the rare formula that seems built to live up to its label.

Oh, This Old Thing? Why Compliments Make Accomplished Women Malfunction

BY DR. GAYLE MACBRIDE

Hand us a compliment and watch what happens. Holding onto one makes other people uncomfortable, and since everyone else's comfort is our job, we shrink. Why do we do this? A psychologist on what that habit is actually protecting, and what it's quietly taking from us. READ MORE

TAKE NOTE

Timely and worth your attention.

💸 A 65-year-old retiring this year can expect to spend $185,500 on healthcare according to a new report from Fidelity. This is up 7.5% from last year, and that figure doesn't include long-term care, which nearly 70% of us will need. Fidelity found 54% of pre-retirees assume Medicare covers everything. It doesn't, and if you're anywhere near 65, our guide to the parts, the penalties, and the deadlines that cost you for life is the homework worth doing now.

🌙 Three major women's health organizations went to Capitol Hill last week to launch a National Strategy to Close the Women's Health Gap—a bipartisan framework asking Congress for a $20 billion, 10-year commitment. They're calling it the women's health moonshot. Women are more than half the population and have been understudied for decades; the ask is finally sized to the problem. Now we find out whether Congress agrees.

🤿 Old Ladies Against Underwater Garbage—yes, that's the actual name—landed on the front page of the New York Times last week, above the fold. Founded in 2017 to clean up Cape Cod ponds, the group has pulled roughly 6,000 pounds of trash out of the water, and membership is restricted to women between 65 and 85. Many of them quoted Margaret Mead to the Times: Never doubt a small group of committed citizens can change the world.
